I think you may have just grazed the head of the nail by referring to the ABC. Sure, many scientists are currently lying through their teeth on a number of issues, but they are only allowed to get away with it by not being held to account by the corrupt mainstream media. (Not to mention that something like 80% of these media-friendly scientists are funded by governments to say what is required of them, ie whatever will maximise fear, keep the masses compliant and retain power). Until this problem is addressed and we can get a media that simply reports rather than creates news, I'm afraid very little will change. Much as I agree with most of your opinions Matt, if you continue to keep missing the head of the nail like this, you're going to end up with a sore thumb.

I am not saying it is not an issue but the corruption of science is something that affects all countries even those that do not have large public broadcasters.
You're right, the ABC only has a relatively minor market share but they are still nonetheless part of the dominant indoctrination machine that has emerged over the last 3 or 4 decades. It dates from around the start of the modern feminist movement, but try saying something like that in public! I still stand by the point that government funding of 'friendly' research topics is a huge problem that totally skews scientific research towards desired outcomes however.
The more obvious issues would be the global warming fraud that you've raised a number of times, the highly co-ordinated covid fraud, or even the Nixon-instigated, 50-year long 'war on cancer' that is still yet to produce even a miniscule return on the multi-billion dollar worldwide scientific expenditure.
As another world famous noble peace winning scientist once stated.... As a Scientist, one must truthfully ask oneself a simple question... "am I a Seventeenth Century Scientist or am I a Twentieth+ Century Scientist....?..."
Thus being, Am I willing to back up my hypothesis/theory by way of devoting my time to develop a lab experiment to prove or disprove said hypothesis/theory??? (as Seventeen Century Scientists did)..... Or..... Am I going to hide behind the Twentieth+ Century idealism of writing papers and essays about other Scientists theories/hypothesis with my own objective opinions to support/dispute said theories/hypothesis?....(as most Twentieth+ Century Scientist do...)

Mr Canavan is alleging that corruption is widespread in science. That is a big claim. His chosen case study is the condition of the Barrier Reef in 2020. Can we get to the bottom of this? We would need references to the reports that Mr Canavan is reading.
The argument about Newton and Einstein is unconvincing. Newton was not wrong and physics was not mistaken for hundreds of years. Einstein's theory of general relativity built on existing physics and advanced it considerably further. It showed that Newton's account was a special case applying to the time and distance scales and the conditions that humans inhabit. Mr Canavan is challenging science but clearly science has been a much more successful endeavour than philosophy or religion. What else is there? Mr Canavan's field is economics I believe. Economics is related to science, via mathematics, and not in conflict with it.

Science is hypotheses or theories. It’s believed correct, until proven wrong. Sadly today it’s all just whatever supports the woke narrative.
